I
just read a story told by Lama Zopa Rinpoche (his
"Advice" section).
He said that HH Dalai Lama was in
Madison (Wisconsin) and he said (paraphrase)
"I have
no realizations, I have no experiences of bodhichitta
or of
emptiness." (HH always says this because he is
humble).
Then someone
in the audience said "Then there is no
hope for people like us."
After HH heard this, he felt so much compassion
because he did not want
people to feel discouraged, so
He let something slip out by saying that he
remembered
being in the assembly of Shakyamuni Buddha in ancient
India.
This means that he is indeed Chenrisig
(Bodhisattva Guan Yin) because the great
bodhisattvas
were in Shakyamuni's company at that time. This story
was told
by Lama Zopa Rinpoche on the "Lama Yeshe
Wisdom Archive" website.
