Hyperlipemia is included in the category of the following syndromes of
TCM: "phlegm-dampness," "blood stasis," etc.
Etiology
and Pathogenesis
This disease is closely related to the liver, spleen and kidney.
Dysfunction
in transportation and transformation of the spleen due to insufficiency or over-intake
of rich fatty food tends to cause accumulation of excessive heat in the middle-warmer
and production of phlegm-dampness in the interior. Hyperactivity of the liver-Ying
due to much dampness resulting from obesity or due to Yin-deficiency of the liver
and kidney will affect the functioning of the spleen and stomach in transporting
and transforming nutrients, leading to accumulation of heat in the spleen and
stomach and production of phlegm-heat in the interior. Abnormal transportation
and distribution of food qi may also result in retention of phlegm-dampness in
the interior. Meanwhile, stagnation of qi is following by stasis of blood.
"Phlegm",
"dampness" and " blood stasis" are responsible for this disease.
