The Sutra on the Dharani of Peaceful Home, Spoken by the Buddha
(Furd Siud Ngorn Tzuc Taw Law Ney Ging)

Thus have I heard:

At one time The Buddha was in Sravasti, in Jeta groove, in the Garden of the Benefactor of Orphans and the Forlorn, accompanied by 1250 great monks and 40000 great Bodhisattvas. Besides, many heavenly gods, who were 84000 in number, together with their sons and relatives, also joined the congregation. They were: Brahma-heaven's king, the ruler of Saha world; Sakra-devanam-Indra (the king of Trayastrimsa heaven); the four heavenly kings known as the heavenly king Dhritarastra, heavenly king Virudhaka, heavenly king Virupaksha, and heavenly king Vaisramana; the twenty eight great Yaksha generals; and so forth.

At that time, from that place, passing through 10 trillion Buddha-worlds, there was a world named Numerous Flowers, in which the Buddha was named Supreme-Lamp-King Tathagata, One who deserves offerings (Arhat), Perfectly Enlightened One (Samyak-sambuddha). The Buddha was speaking Dharmas at that time. He commanded two Bodhisattvas, one of whom was named Great Light, and another was named Unlimited Light, saying:

"Virtuous men, you should go to Saha World and deliver this Dharani to Sakyamuni Buddha. This Dharani is very beneficial, it can grant peace and happiness to the living beings in the long night [of reincarnations], and give them great virtuous benefits, physical energy, and fames." The Buddha then spoke the Dharani:

Tadyata porosuli suli suli lisa modi maha-somodi somandi maha-somandi soli sololi svaha

The two Bodhisattvas received this Dharani from the Buddha, and in the time it takes for a vigorous person to bend and extend his arm, they left Numerous Flowers Buddha-World and reached the Garden of the Benefactor of Orphans and the Forlorn, in Jeta Groove in Sravasti.

The two bodhisattvas went to where Sakyamuni Buddha was, bowed to the Buddha's feet with their heads touching the ground, withdrew to one side, and said to the Buddha:

"World Honored One, from this world, passing through 10 trillion Buddha-worlds, there was a world named Numerous Flowers, the Buddha who was speaking Dharmas in there was named Supreme-Lamp-King Tathagata, One who deserves offerings (Arhat), Perfectly Enlightened One (Samyak-sambuddha). He sent us to here to inquire you: World Honored One, are your illnesses few, are your worries few, is your strength fine? Would your disciples be disturbed by demons, heavenly beings, ghosts, Raksas, Bhutas, Kumbhandas, Putanas, Pisacas, hungry ghosts, Asuras, Garudas, dry-man-ghosts, Gorn-Taw ghosts, disease ghosts, the ghosts that make people mad, the ghosts that distract people's mind, Forng-Doe ghosts, rising-corpse ghosts, the ghosts that make diseases outbreak in one day, the ghosts that make diseases outbreak in two, three, four, or seven days, the ghosts that make diseases often outbreak, and so forth?"

"Supreme-Lamp-King Tathagata sent us to deliver this Dharani to you, to make this Saha world's living beings peaceful in their long night [of reincarnations], and grant them great virtuous benefits, physical energy, and fames." They then spoke the Dharani, as mentioned previously.

At that time, the Buddha told Ananda: "You should accept and hold this Dharani, and recite it fluently; you should explain this Dharani to others, write it, and make offerings to it. Why? Because a Buddha's appearance in a world is difficult to encounter, but having opportunity to hold this Dharani is even more difficult. Ananda, if anyone accepts, holds, reads, and recites this Dharani fluently, he will gain great blessing and benefits."
